ATLAS DRILLCAT

The installation of a dewatering system always begins with advancing a hole in the ground before installing a wellpoint/eductor well. Therefore displacement of existing soil must be achieved prior to the installation of the dewatering well. The most common method of installation was using water pumped by a high pressure jet pump through a sand casing to displace the material to the desired depth. The wellpoint/eductor and filter media would then be installed within the casing.

Atlas realized that these techniques were effective but much too slow for today's demanding schedules. This is especially true when dense clays or tills are encountered during installation. Pre-drilling of the holes greatly increases productivity during the installation sequence. Drilling companies with truck mounted drill rigs were used frequently in the past but they were usually unable to meet the demanding schedules or could not access some sites due to site conditions.

Atlas then designed the first Atlas Drillcat, a hydraulic top head drive drill integrated with a track mounted "Caterpillar" hydraulic excavator. Using this design not only expedited the installation processes but also gave Atlas the ability to access sites that a truck mounted drill could not.

Atlas Dewatering now has five Atlas "Drillcats" to serve the construction and environmental industries.
