
The geology at the Bessarion Subway Station consisted of two distinct silty sand aquifers separated by a clay layer. The excavation
was supported by soldier pile and lagging shoring, therefore, groundwater control was critical to the success of the project. Atlas
addressed the two aquifers by installing vacuumized eductor wells around the perimeter of the excavation. Each eductor well was
screened in both aquifers. The excavation was constructed in a heavy built-up, urban environment. Atlas successfully dewatered
the excavation and allowed the project to proceed on schedule. |
